I have not read all of the responses as of yet, but I am decidedly in the camp that the fuel should be left as it is. The game balances created by the author were well thought out.
Handicaping the DVII for example, while not historically accurate, is an example of how this balance works.
I appreciate Nick's taking the time to gather input and his desire to improve on the design. I think there are a few things from the original game that might be added, and will be posted on another thread.
Ignoring the historical accuracy issue, and concentrating on playability, I have a question for you.
You describe the handicapping of the D.VII as an example of game balance. What about a hypothetical game in which the fuel disadvantage was reversed? That is, where a group of Allied aircraft had significantly less fuel than their German counterparts. Would such a scenario between Sopwith Snipes (with 45 fuel boxes) and Siemens-Schuckert D.III/VIs (with 67 fuel boxes) be considered playable or balanced? |
