The idea of supply affecting combat capablity can be applied to pretty much any war you want to chose. From the earliest days of the caveman, the supply of blunt objects, pointed sticks and endurance of the Cro Magnon warrior would directly influence the duration and intensity of combat. In the far future it may well be dilithium crystals, anti matter pods and the availability of positronic robots that will affect the way we kill each other.
There is no getting away from the old axiom than an army marches on its stomach.
I picked the examples of World War II simply because they very clearly illustrated the point I was trying to make and though performance had most certainly increased, the same limitations were present, even as they are today. |
