I don't see that the only argument presented here are: "I don't like it" said very loudly. the only rules we don't have here to stay with the original game are lewis gun and the possibility to choose the target to fire at. (altitude and spin came from the second version of the game, but are better implemented in the canvas eagles rules) a great improvment was the brust which is a first step in order to have the lewis gun. for the target choice, it will lead to a slower game (1 more turn to choose the target as in the tailing phase). in my opinion the "house rule" implemented here are only due to the platform used (the web) just to have a game that can be played. we are not in the same room in the same moment at the end.
Always in my opinion, level the fuel will lead to a significant change in the game mechanics where fuel is a significant element (a weakness for some, a strength for others) to take care when we play. all the allied runners will be penalized to much and will loose the element that balance the german dancer.
I hope this can be a valid argument for you. ciao Francesco aka sbadranga The "I don't like it" lament (it really isn't an argument) was the only point regarding the fuel issue which (obviously in my opinion) was not clearly refuted by the historical or logical points put forward by myself or Calsir.
As for "house rules", I disagree that there are only a couple. There are, off the top of my head and without actually checking the printed rules, at least ten notable house rules in use on this site, most of which are not products of the implementation (i.e., they were choices made by the developers, not problems too difficult to readily present on a web site). And, this does not count the rewrite done to the rules themselves as posted on-line.
With regard to this being a "significant change in the game mechanics", again I disagree. There would be no change in the game mechanics. There should be only an increase in the number of fuel boxes for selected aircraft. The game would continue to function otherwise as it does now. Further, as I pointed out in direct response to Nick's original post, just leveling the amount of fuel would not correct anything. Rather it would simply change which aircraft are at a game imposed disadvantage due to the fuel allocations.
Assuming that your point about "game mechanics" is meant to be along the lines of "play interaction" or "playability", I still disagree. Providing fuel for a Fokker Dr.I would improve rather than harm the runner verses dancer scenarios. Finally, fast aircraft would be forced to actually fight, rather than speed around the board waiting for the dancer to run out of fuel. If what you want is a fair runner verses dancer fight, give the dancer enough fuel to engage for the full fight.
