Ammunition could be one alternative method for limiting the length of a game, and was partially introduced in the board game with the rules for Lewis guns. However, seeing how questionable the data used for just the Lewis gun ammunition rules is, this would undoubtedly open a whole new can of worms for people to fight about here.
Actually, ammo is not a game limiter: while altitude (hard turn limit) and "fuel" can be game limiters (with the extra rule that the game will end when the fuel is spent for everybody) you can go on in a dogfight without ever shooting at each other (unless someone makes a mistake).
