In my opinion, the only consistent way to keep in check game length is to set a hard limit on game turns, since it looks quite unfeasible to introduce a good system to handle altitude and energy.
A game length control method our Blue Max group has discussed is to add a fixed number of turns to a die roll (representing an arbitrary starting altitude expressed in the number of turns required to reach low altitude). After that number of turns had been played, a D6 would be rolled at the end of each turn. When the result is a "1", the game ends as the pilots realized they could no longer safely maneuver. Aircraft would ignore the fuel rules during such a game. |
