Point 3. Godwin's Law. Bah. History may often be rewritten, but it can never be altered. To be critical of one side or another is to be expected. There is no denying that there are some players who find it "Cool" to play the Germans for whatever reason they may have. I know personally of one game designer ex of Avalon Hill who had a very strong German fetish, because he thought that their uniforms were "pretty neat." At the same time, you very rarely see the same level of coolness being applied to the Russians or the Japanese or the Italians.
As someone with a history degree who now teaches (including the subject of English BlackSheep) I would pose this question.
If History may often be rewritten, how do you know which version is true? It has obviously been altered by the person who has rewritten it. If you look at the histories written by both sides of a conflict then you will se two different accounts.
Try reading the Prussian/German, French, British, Dutch and Belgian accounts of the battle of Waterloo. Everyone won, including the French.
So history dictates that Napoleon abdicated following the Battle of Waterloo, but which "History" will you believe about the battle itself?
Or is the actual "truth" something that has been lost and can only be hinted at by reading everyone's account?
What is an unaltered history? There's no such thing. Sorry.
