| Message text I don't know of any specific data on the causes of death of World War One pilots, but I think it is pretty safe to assume that a lot of pilots were victims of the PK chit. Once again I will say that I am not conversant with how many chits are in the mix, but I think there are at least 20, so one chit in twenty runs to a five percent chance of drawing it.
Given the open and flimsy construction of these aircraft and the fact that there was no armour protection for the pilots or observers, I am pretty willing to accept that at LEAST five percent of pilots were shot to death during the course of a combat mission.
As far as naming pilots from memory, I can assure that I cannot name ANY pilots from memory, dead or otherwise, without looking them up.
I do tend to agree with you about making rules for the exception rather than the general and I am usually opposed to such rules. The PK and FTE results however are not and should not be the RARE occurences as you seem to believe.
I suppose it is possible to blow up a Tiger with a Sherman, even with a frontal shot. I wouldn't be inclined to make a rule that would make it a common occurence. However, in a highly detailed game with many many many variables and modifiers to a die roll, I MIGHT be inclined to allow the possibility of beating astronomical odds. |
