I don't recall GDW having a house magazine. They did have one done out of house called Command Post Quarterly, but it was strictly for the miniature rules Command Decision. The Grenadier wasn't their House magazine? In the few copies I have it deals with a lot of different games. In its Premier Issue talks of an UNOFFICIAL column with "new ideas on how to play GWD games". If it snot an house magazine, what it is?
There was also the problem that GDW didn't see BM as a big seller. Frank and I had been having lunch and discussing game design when he said he wanted me to design a game. If I did, he would publish it. He assumed I would do a ground game but kept his word as to publishing whatever I came up with. Therefore we have BM. The actual production of it was more of a headache than any other game they were designing or publishing at the time. When it finally went to press the order was only for break-even, not make lots of money on it. Once the first production run was sold that was it. This is not a surprise to me. In aviation great planes were not ordered but offered by the firms as it was the case of P-51 Mustang and A4 SkyHawk, just to give two examples. Anyway, once it proved to be a hit, the introduction of some more planes would have been a nice thing.
Thanks for those sites. I would have given a lot to have the internet back then. You could not have internet since there was the Cold War and internet was a Secret Weapon. Anyway, if I find other web page I will forward you the link. |
