Not to mention which no game will *ever* be realistic. Realism can only be achieved by actually joining the Army or Air Force and getting your ass shot at for real. Suddenly, realism becomes not such a good thing ...
Ksnake, that is a position I've held for YEARS in these kinds od discussions. The debate revolves around what you want to do. Do you want to engage in a challenging mental excersize where you skill comes into play, or do you want to experience "Realism"? Realism in this line of investigation has nothing to do with what is called Realism on "Real TV". Nobody dies there, just like in boardgaming and computer/web gaming. Many people in "gaming" want more "realism". When the RPG is zipping into your hummer, you've got Realism.
A pretty good game was invented quite some time ago called Chess. Realism is about as far removed from it as one could possibly imagine. The question is, is it a good game? Having stood the test of time you'd have to say it holds up pretty well.
I will say, the addition of other planes, converted into the BM system could add some more interesting scenarios. Some have done that already. Here on this site, the webmasters have been working to do their best to re-create the very nicely done Game of Blue Max. To date, with an awful lot of work, they've done an excellent job of it. While it's always good to look to future possibilities, let's not push aside what is already an excellent game system.
Have Fun everyone!! Bombadil |
