If you want to have a better idea where you and your opponents stand, do what I do. Play league games. The dice are still a factor, and who you do or don't shoot down is still a factor, but it eliminates scenario balance from the equation. With larger numbers of games played you shrink the importance of dice rolling and other factors. I have been playing leagues for Blue Max almost exclusively since they began.
I think the biggest problem with statistics on the site is that the numbers included don't go back far enough. I am in only one or two leagues at a time, so my number played doesn't accumulate to a hundred games. I am at 8, 8 plane leagues completed right now on the Blue Max League Stats Page. I don't know if I have ever had over 10 completed at one time. The old stat page shows me at about 1000 games played.
The last comment I make to anyone designing a stats system is to do your own evaluation of the results. People have posted top player lists a few times over the years and I am always curious to see if I made the list and who else has. I don't usually rank. Keeping in mind that I have been almost exclusively playing 8 plane leagues since they arrived, these are my stats. Old stat page shows me at 970 kill for 330 dead. A couple players with more games played than me have much higher ratio's. One plays lots of two player games , the other tends to play very large games. I average 73 pts per game (this is benifited by playing in larger games. 259 wins of 1069 games (this is penalized by playing larger games) On the Blue Max League Stats I have 4 victories of 8 leagues with the 3rd highest average points per league(excluding those with only one or two leagues played).
Best wishes, and good gaming to you all! |
