Tornade said:"if you are crippled, get off the board...if you have no guns...get off the board...if you have no gas...get off the board" This has been a great forum for me as I am rather new to this game. Something is confusing me, however. The rules state, "A player should not tell another player if he is out of fuel or gliding and whether his guns have jammed or are out of ammunition." Maybe I have not played enough games to notice this, but does the computer tell your opponents when you have undergone any of these results? I don't remember seeing "gun destroyed" listed on my enemies plane. If that is the case, then what Tornade said makes sense, but if the enemy doesn't know your status, couldn't you bluff them a little? Lead them away from your wingman? I will definitely pay more attention to the aircraft status table from now on. Thank you all for your responses.
If I recall correctly, only the 'observer killed' is shown.
However, you can figure out those conditions: if you are gliding you can only perform 2Sx , 8(L/R)x manoeuvres, so, barring bluffing , it gives out pretty much your state. Secondly, if you point your nose to an enemy it shows in the calculations how many guns you have. So, if you want to bluff the enemy into considering you a threat, you must be careful NOT to shoot at him.
Back to the thread: I play for the kills and for survival. While I don't consider myself a wwi pilot, the game is still loosely based on the rationale of warfare. You don't win by blazing away your machine gun at the enemy-adversary-opponent-contender, you win by making sure his plane goes into the ground . Moreover, if a single area is _badly_ damaged (say, less than 3 fuselage, for example) I consider a good option to abandon the field.
