i am with my mate on this one...if you are crippled, get off the board...if you have no guns...get off the board...if you have no gas...get off the board you have to fly for 25 rounds before you are gonna break even for being shot down and remember...that the enemy guy is also racking up points for flying too when i see a cripple, i go after him, an easy kill is just as sweet and i am no chivalric knight to show mercy and in that i dont think i am the only one get off the board...get off the board...get off the board...get off the board...get off the board did i say...get off the board ? have i made my point ?
I feel that it isn't that easy. I don't remember how to see my really old games to find one that I won, even tho I was shot down, but I am sure I had a few, and those would have a few more points for me(I really dont care about the 30+pts for my opponent unless he could pass me in that game).. My newer games are almost all league games and you have to survive in those games. Survival in league equals exiting with honor, so just getting off the board without honor is the same as being shot down for league points. So get off the board does not always make sense.
The original question was kill ratio or points in an open game. I play for points, I stay on the board. If I am already losing, my opponent getting 30+ more points doesn't matter. If I am winning by 40+ points, my opponent getting the kill in one shot wont matter. I want those points. In an open game, your side is only a tool to your own chances of winning. If your wingman has a lot more points than you, helping him succeed will cost you the game. Are we playing a game, or pretending to be WWI pilots? I am playing a game. I also think it is cool that others are going for an attitude of "if I was in that plane I would do x".
Play for kills, play for points, play for win ratio, PLAY FOR FUN. Just, please, do not exit the board with a sound plane. That move screws your opponents and your wingmates. There has been a few arguments here about players getting over double their opponents score, then jumping off board for a half point loss and still winning. Good gaming, but bad sportsmanship.
