As usual, thanks Phil! I would have to double check, but I believe I own 3 different editions of the game. I had wondered at the need for three editions back in the day. It makes perfect sense now with the GDW oops in the middle.
Some of us have a bit of the troll in us (no offense intended Troll), and these guys are cat's paws for us. We don't want to leave scratches on each other, so we have to wait (years apparently) for the foolish to wander along. I am really developing a kinship to you Phil because of your participation here over the years, and because part of that time has involved setting the confused ones straight.
As usual, thanks Phil!
The second edition came along at a slack time in GDW's history. They had started designing only miniature and RPG games and had no boardgames in the queue so republished BM. The miniatures game was published near the end of the line. Hardly anyone was working at GDW when it was published. I believe only Frank, his secretary and warehouse guy were still there. When GDW closed I loaded several dozen boxes into a truck and brought them home to sit in my living room for a time. Then Jack van Schaik of RAFM decided he was going to buy the game and include a set of miniatures in the game. He had the boxes picked up and I never saw them again. The agreement was to pay $250.00 up front and $750.00 in three months plus a royalty of 3% on retail sales. He never did any of that and finally, under threat of keeping him out of the country through a lawsuit he tossed the remaining games and quit advertising it. Then along came youplay.it and the rest is, as they say, history.
