I got an impression that 1. He seldom use this site. 42 games for the past 4 yrs. 2. He seldom join 1 on 1 game. 3. He seldom speak in the game/forum.
He may not be a too well english speaker as in 375439 he said a French slang instead. I would first guess the 'hi yourself' may be a translation from french, but nothing conclusive.
On the base line, YPI is just a place for fun. And here have BM fans all over the world. I myself is a Chinese where English is my 3rd Language beside my mother tongue (Cantonese) and 2nd Language (mandarin). I wish to point out my english is just up to average only. (enough for moderation )
In cyber world where only text is the 1st hand medium have both good and bad part. When I am studying communication my professor told me communication composed of 68% gesture & body lang, 25% tone and 7% language. Online space eliminate 93% of the parts and we can only intepret the remaining 7%.
I can't said anyting on behalf of the rest of user but my impression (and also some stats from webmaster ) that the general user here is old fans of boardgames. So it means late 30 to early 50 English speaker is the main user here.
However the way we learn english is very different, take an example. In chinese english, we have a terms 'long time no see' which equal to I miss you in English. I used to use it for all players that have played b4 and met again. But one time an English Pilot pointed out that the 'political incorrectness' of the slang. So now I change to a more general one 'hi all'
For the subject matter I will continue on the investigation but I would first guess jh is just said 'hi to you' in his own way.
