both Tyree and Blackstar make some wonderful, eloquents and totally irrelevant points
in air to air combat it is ONLY the kill that counts
how much damage you did...how many times you got into position...how many times you shot at the target...all count for nothing if you didnt get the kill
the more skill your pilot has...the better his chance of getting the kill...but luck has always played a role in combat and sometimes no matter how good you are you still lose cause your luck has run out
in the words of Viper in the movie Top Gun
"Gentlemen, this is about air combat...there are no points for second place"
Your points give a great contrast to what I see as the logical rational for the way the game is on this web site.
The kill is not the only thing that counts in air to air combat. Coming back alive also counts. Pilots and planes have always been expensive.
How much damage you do does count because it ties up the enemies resources. Much of modern warfare depends an this principle. Land mines are an excellent and horrifying example.
This sites Blue Max game rewards doing damage while not being damaged. It is a good game principle, and a great combat principle in most situations.
There will continue to be lots of discussion about what would make this a better game. Most of it is really a discussion of what would make it a different game. |
