Here is an idea. This game is a lot like chess which is a game where you plan many moves ahead if not the entire match with counter moves in case the other player makes a move not expected. So that being said it is very easy to plot your moves with the fuel that you will consume and seeing as how there is already fuel indicator on your plane data sheet you should never run out of fuel at an unexpected time.
The only time I run out of fuel unexpectedly is when a chit is pulled saying "x" fuel lost (this might be in our house rules and not here, as I don't recall getting it recently here) which then forces you to change your strategy.
Long and short with good planning and indicators already on the plane data sheet all that you need is already at hand, use the mouse wheel it works!
