I try but my instinct is to look at the fuel gauge just at the point when I have about 2 fuel left - pretty much regardless of where on the map I am. I'm trying to train it - but a warning saying you have 10 or less fuel remaining (you can hear the engine sputtering a bit) would improve my play - and presumably the play of some of my opponents, so I think it might be good for the game - even if not accurate to the period.
That's the point: when the engine sputters it's already too late.
Hint: with an average speed of 2, you can assume (half your fuel) turns of flying. When at, say, turn 15-20 with 45 starting fuel keep an eye on your tank and start flying toward your site when you have the chance (e.g. when disengaging from a furball).
(It depends also on your flying style, if you're a roadrunner or a dancer, etc.) |
