Message text The link above to the earlier thread does indeed address the concerns that I have. I stated already that I have no objection to pre arranged signals between players, so long as these signals are visible (ie. placed in the game chat box) to all players.
If you are coordinating your moves via e-mail then you are denying the other side the ability to see your signals and possibly decipher them. The ships of that age did not have Tactical Data Systems on board and signaling was very limited in its scope to transmit detailed instructions or information. As often happened, signals went unseen, were misunderstood or even on occassion, totally ignored. Flag signals were also visible to the enemy as well, who in many cases were able to read the flag hoists and react accordingly. |
