And maybe having a more controlled and limited site isn't the philosophy expected by its creators... Actually I'm going to talk exactly about this point
YouPlayIt originally was born simply to give a few friends the possibility to play together when it was not possible to be physically in the same room.
Since then YouPlayIt evolved a lot, and now we think it even has the mission to spread the boardgames knowledge.
Having more people that play with boardgames online, means to have more people willing to buy real boardgames. This means a greater boardgame industry, more happy boardgames authors, and a lot more great boardgames to play for us
I love to sit around a table, playing a good boardgame with my dear friends, and I think anyone must know how lovable is this experience
Said that, I don't think that we should have too many features that could limitate a new user experience.
Sure, it can happen that this new user will disappear during one or more games, because he simply doesn't like this way to play, but it can even happen that this new user will became interested in playing more boardgames, helping us with our mission.
An honour system, or the possibility to vote a player reputation, could give to "old users" the possibility to filter out new users.
Sure, this can be a bit more safe in the short run, but I have meet a lot of interesting people here around, with whom is a pleasure to play, and it'd be really sad if I wasn't allowed to know them because they were discouraged by the site itself and, for that reason, they had quit before becoming "old users".
If there is someone who is willingly acting against the rules, ruining the pleasure to play, just let us know and we will do something about it. Otherwise, be tollerant.
Everyone here has been a newcomer, and probably made some mistake. It wouldn't be fair if I was not considered "honourable" because I did a mistake or two while I was learning to play
