You are correct, however, in stating that players that don't play often enough simply lose interest and leave. I'm having the same problem trying to get friends playing.

It also doesn't help when many of the 2 and 3 player games are scenarios that ksnake and pokerguy bait newbies with, where the scenarios have statistical advantage to one particular plane. Getting baited and trounced kind of pushes newbies away too.

If you really want to encourage newbies, you need to have a newbie workshop and tutorial or even a newbie league where newbies play newbies and learn together.
