Well there are several options to bring in new blood and stir up activity.
1. Tell a friend. When I stumbled across this site, I told a few friends who I thought might be interested. At least one's become a regular player here. If everyone brought one friend, that'd double the player base.
2. Post some short adverts and/or links in appropriate forums on websites you frequent. Nearly every gaming site I hang out at has at least one OOC forum where anything can be freely posted. People are more apt to take notice of posts made by a regular member, than some drive by spam posting.
3. See about posting some adverts and/or links at related interest websites. For example, Canvass Eagle sites might be happy to share news about the chance to play something similar online. If you really want to get ambitious, you could might track down some Canvass Eagle squadrons and invite them to play some online matches vs other such groups from around the world. Can't do that so easily with the boardgame/model plane version now can you

4. Take the initiative and create a few scenarios with a variety of settings on a weekly basis. Some players like small games, some like big ones, some like small maps, others large and some like extended fuel scenarios, while others don't. Even if only a few people were to create 4-6 scenarios a week, that would give a lot more chances for the rest, and newbies, to dive in and play. During the recent campaign, I usually made a dozen or so games a week. Some didn't fill up so fast, but they all did eventually, and I, and presumably most who signed up, enjoyed ourselves

The fact is that the number of new players for Blue Max doesn't compensate the ones that are leaving. As I told you, in December 2007 there were a couple short 1100 active players for Blue Max while now there are a couple more that 700. That's to say Blue Max lost from the 35% to the 40% of players.
Think it over.
More over, have a look at the forum: the rate of discussion has decreased a lot. In the last day there have been only ten messages.
To see the problem you want to wait the site to fade out for lack of players?

...the problem is there, you are finding less and less new players to play with. At this point, to play always with the same persons start to be boring.
I won't say that. Since I play a lot of leagues games as well, I find roughly 33% of the players in each leagues (Blue Max, WSIM, and Gonzaga) are new players either for the game or the site. There are few around and some of them (in Blue Max) are seasoned players.
Well Paolo I must say that the "unjoin" button/option is clever to say the least. It would exponentially reduce the forum complaints regarding bad form/sportsmanship etc. between players and allow a courteous "bowing out" of players who may have rivalries and/or "bad-blood" regarding play-styles, old grudges etc.
In regards to "Cadets" (as Kingsnake put it) an even simpler option might be to have a volunteer or 3 set up games with the announcement being: "new players" or "cadet training" and so forth, Parker did something similiar years ago.
I suspect the games would fill slowly but word would get out eventually that not only are we a bunch of elitist bad-asses

but that we teach others to be elitist bad-asses as well.
A socially appropriate escape hatch, and a player managed training program.
Might not hurt to give it some consideration, we can do alot to help improve this site as well all on our own and if it sucks then Nick and the gang can squash it.
I suspect however that some initiative on our part would be at least marginally appreciated
I however would be a terrible candidate for training "cadets" (the temptation would just be too severe for poor old Fen to resist).
But I know Parker, K-snake, Brewk-001,Poker and Templars (to name a few) have on many occasions been exceptionally patient and informative instructors.
Food for thought from the half full jigsaw- puzzle-box that is my mind.
Your friend:
The Easter Bunny.....er...I mean,.
FEN -
(you dont want to see me in my bunny suit -trust me)
It is accesorized with goggles and a billowing silk scarf (the suit I mean) which is nice because as anyone here can tell you;
A scarf and goggles is usually all I wear into combat.
