This tactics has been in used for as long as I have been a member of this site. Instead of getting the -1 league point for being shot down, you get 0 league point and your opponent will get 4 points. Experienced pilots do that all the time and this is the first time I hear someone complains about it.
He can call me whatever he likes and I do not care since other experienced pilots other than pokerguy and me use this whenever it is impossible to get back to our own line.

Calling other with that certain term on this site has started Flame Wars in the past.

Nevertheless flying off from the wrong side it is unsporty, dishonorable and contrary to the spirit
of the original boardgame. And yes, this point has been raised hundreds of times.
Experienced pilots should play by honor rather then to accumulate pointless stats.
This has nothing to do with the stats since it is still count as a lost in your personal statistics. This has more to do with league scoring hence you do not get the -1 point.
With respect to honor, are we suppose to let a crippled plane fly off the map then? Some kind of chivalric honor?? What about a plane with no guns left?

Hate to tell you this but in non-league games, yes I do let my opponent fly off if they have no guns or I have destroyed their engine.
My honour is worth more to me than the kill - it is a problem with the way I was educated by my father. Honour and chivalry are very important to me, and I guess my brother, and I will always try to fly off even when I know it is a hopeless cause.
This means that my stats are dreadful but I have my honour. What do you have?
As for leagues, I will always go for the kill. If I get a rudder jam forcing me off the area I write an apology as I'm sure BMBug does also as we always apologise to one another when playing together over a beer.
I always try for my own lines even in leagues.
It is playing in the spirit of the game and the period, not playing the game.

Kit
Go for it Kit.
Yes I called dcr66 a coward for running away off the nearest board edge. He would have been shot for cowardice in WW 1 if he had been seen doing the same thing then.
