Calling BM a sim is over the top. I think some ppl would like to make it a sim, (and certainly the miniature rules made it closer) but the boardgame was FAR from that.
I don't think I'm a PPL , but I think that BM, although very grainy and simplified, IS a sim. The simple reason behind my opinion is that most real tactics (e.g. turning outside when you're chasing someone) do work.
If anything it is a simulation of an imagined dogfight and certainly not a simulation of the true tactical circumstances the men were operating in.
Beg your pardon, but there's an "aircraft availability chart", isn't it? And whati is it if not a simulation of the "world" outside any particular dogfight?
And beside that, original BM didn't have any "tournement", but it did have XP and skills (have you ever tried to build an experienced pilot in a Ni17 against DIII's?), that are a simulation of circustances men were operating in.
