Message text God, reading through these posts made me feel really old. I've played most every game listed, and many, many more not listed.
I have the fortune of having a couple friends (One is Just4Fun) in my hometown that get together to play once a week. We play miniature wargames, primarily. Of various periods. Currently we are playing the 7 years war period, with the next game being Austrian vs the Prussians. We are also fortunate in that we are able to leave the figures in place in Just4fun's basement, so we can let it sit for a week or two, and come back to it. That's a big advantage as well.
We have played BM for many years, and still do on occasion. Generally, because of Youplay.it we don't do it as much.
In general, playing face to face is so much better then on line, you get to BS while you play, and with good buddies, it's a good time. That being said, in addition to YouPlay, I also play in several PBeM role playing games, as well as a PBeM game of Civilization IV. So, finding time is simply a matter of mind over matter. That and the fact that most 'turns' only take a few minutes.
Getting into wargaming is fun, and educational. I don't know how many books I have read, trying to glean an understanding of a period. Granted, the information is of little use in real life, but I enjoy learning, and researching.
So, dig out those old games, blow off the dust, and enjoy!!
