Yes I've played Panzer Leader and another one out of the Panzer series. I played Squad Leader a few times in college but it got way to complex for me. My favorites from those days and even now are Empire Builder (Monoploy using railroads instead of real estate), Cosmic Encounters (the BEST card game ever invented), Buck Rogers (board game fashioned after Axis and Allies) and Star Fleet Battles. I'd love to find an online version of any of these. There is one for SFB but it is a pay site and fund are rahter short these days for me. Maybe after my move.

Does anybody like to play Panzer Leader? I used to love that game. It is a very detailed and complex game. I would not recommend it to beginning war game enthusiasts.
I liked all those old Avalon Hill book shelf games. I remember as a teenager going to the local Hobby store and looking at all the games on the shelf and thinking to myself the thicker the box the better the game. Of course after playing several games I found that not to be the case.
I also liked Squad Leader. Does anybody still play Squad Leader?
One problem I had with these games was finding another player to actually read and unstand the rules to have a seriously competitive contest. The other problem was that I could never finish a game is a timely matter. Some of the scenarios would take hours to complete. It was frustrating to leave a game in progress on the dining room table and come back in a few days to find the cat had scattered the counters everywhere.
