It would be pretty boring to play a combat game where only 1 in 10 was killed or injured. If you read about the Sioux Indian battles it was closer to 1 in 20 or less, if I remember correctly.
This is clearly a personal point of view. Here is mine if we start like that : there is no fun to me to be shot down.
Come back to home alive, with good action and after having done my best to bother the other side, is my pleasure. Moreover, I did not see the point to stay on the field when you know for sure you will be shot down at the next shot or you will not achieve anything by staying, this is just a waste of time for me and boring, but i can assume it will be total fun for you if you are my opponent.

So one, two, a dozen of kill dont matter to me and the quality of a game is more in the skill each other can deploy to stay alive and exploiting others error than being the last on the field after killed one or two poor pigeons or being the brave who stayed with his sling in front of a squadron in full power.

An other point for the defense of this poor player : he is obviously a newcomer, so just let him know a bit more this game and the rules before bashing him.
Good games to all!
