Not only that, but games tend to be much deadlier than reality. For instance, I play a B-17 game. (World War II) Typical squadron losses are running about 20% *per mission*. Which is significantly more than even the bloodiest exceptional real life missions, like Schweinfurt.
It would be pretty boring to play a combat game where only 1 in 10 was killed or injured. If you read about the Sioux Indian battles it was closer to 1 in 20 or less, if I remember correctly.
