| Message text Hmm I have just spotted a problem with my original handicap suggestion - if players came in with a bonus point tally and then flew straight back out again. So perhaps they would need a multiplier - rather than a straight add to their points scored.
Lets' try and explain a different way - I'm trying to figure out if I'm playing well or badly compared to all other people in the same situation.
I can try comparing myself to the other players in one league - but sometimes you get experts in your league, sometime beginners so it's hard to judge where you fall in the overall average.
Just looking at this stats page here http://www.youplay.it/play/bm_Stats.asp?ID=ED20480 it says that for "A little help from my friends" these are the scores.
kill dead diff 1 Sopwith Snipe 238 155 +83 2 Spad XIII 144 124 +20 3Siemens-Schuckert D.IV 179 164 +15 4 Pfalz D. IIIa 122 182 -60
picking the Pfalz - it's pretty sure you won't survive let alone get the yellow box that says you won the game
Picking the Snipe - you need to shoot down 3 planes in 2 games to be about average. but I still can't factor in the fact that I need to be shot down twice too.
So I want to know what the average score for each plane is (over all pilots) in this scenario (not all scenarios).
Then if I get better than the score I've done well.
Given the info above I'm thinking that if I take the score for the snipe at the end and divide it by 238/155
and I do the same for each plane - and then I look at the scores - I have then got the highest 'adjusted score' I can feel like I've not only done better than average, but also done better than the other pilots I was with - not in terms of actual kills - but in terms of 'how I've done compared to the average' for a pilot playing any plane in this scenario.
If flew a spad and shoot down the pflatz but the pfaltz gets the killing shot on me too. If the snipe shot the pfaltz down too, and then the siemens and snipe shoot each other down. The scores might be
snipe 75 siemens 45 spad 35 pflatz 34
so using the system above the adjusted scores would come out at
snipe 48 siemens 41 spad 30 pfaltz 50
Meaning that (if my system makes sense) the pfaltz pilot had actually done the best with what he was given (better than expected having got one kill) and then the pilot with the snipe, then the siemens, and then me in the spad.
If someone looks at the game at the moment they see that the snipe shot down 2 people and got 75 points - but the pfaltz shot down 1 and only got 34 points. My point is that it wasn't a fair comparison (which is ok - but I'm interested in the fair comparison) and contrary to the current scoring system the pilot of the pflatz got the best result given the handicap.
Sorry if I hadn't been clear - it's probably still not clear - and the system of handicap adjustment I made above is probably not the best adjustment - its just the best I can do using the data I can currently see.
