As for the new plane graphics, Canvas Eagle charts or Wings of War cards could provide some base on how to draw them, but it would indeed still need some skilled volunteer to do the graphics work.
You got one key point: who is the volunteer that does the graphics work?
Someone who play Canvas Eagles that uses those planes may have to grab the digital camera to take a top down picture of the models. Ideally they can do it over a piece of white paper to make them stand out. PhotoShop can help with the paint job variations.
Too bad Ozvortex isn't still around, he had literally scores of scaled models for both Canvas Eagles and his 3d Blue Max variant, all meticulously painted w/authentic schemes, squadron logos etc. and almost all were at or near professional display/show quality. He was also a self professed digital photo-nut. It's been awhile but I'll see if I still have his web-site info. The virtual tour of his collection and the tid-bits of historical facts & trivia related to each peice & it's photo & modeling techniques were beyond impressive.
