Good idea, but why 50 instead of 70? Several planes have normal fuel in excess of 50, so they would be getting their missions shortened.


I've been playing Blue Max for many years now. Started playing when the game first came out. One of the biggest issues almost everyone and every gaming group has with the game I've gamed with has been about fuel. Even the designer himself has mentioned that he "dropped the ball on the whole fuel thing", but added that players change this anyway.

Normally, my gaming group just ignores fuel all together and either just play until we are finished or set a preset number of turns when the game ends. However, at conventions, when we host Blue Max games (using 1:72 scale miniature aircraft) we tend to allocate 50 fuel points to everyone regardless what plane they might be flying. This tends to prevent those excited players from racing around the board at speed 3 and 4 - there was this one guy who would always take a Spad XIII and race around at speed 4.

Most planes in BM have about 45 to 50 fuel points, and from experience, we found that 50 fuel points gives a good simple game that doesn't take a long time to play and the players don't feel the game ends early... which happens when there are Fokker D.VII's and Dr.I's in the match.

Anyway, that's my take on it all
