Because of the speeds you would get far fewer chances to shoot so shooting in general would have to be much more effective-and longer ranged.
Playing with faster speeds, maybe 17x12 maps will become much more popular than now. Yes, shooting after moving 5 or 6 (or even 7???) hexes will be more unpredictable, as you'll seldom figure out where the target plane would end its turn. Guns power, range of fire and endurance points will increase considerably, and so will fuel consumption. You will have 20mm guns for long range and MGs for close range. And you will have the radio. This could lead to a very different game, with undoubtly very less flying circuses, but with more tight attacking formations. In the WWII, the pilot of a crippled plane could bail out, rather than merely gliding at speed 1 while two or more enemy planes follow him munching his tail turn after turn. And you should have witness of your kills to confirm them, so it would be not so much a winning strategy to be the last Snipe alive in a flight of dead Camels... Close cooperation will become critical for top gun leaders, who will have to support endangered wingmen or win only hollow victories.
Am I teasing you enough or do you need more of this? GG |
