Message text i have run a few times in the same problem
where there is two enemy planes in the hex and
i did not fire at either
the tailing did not seem to be an issue
i think maybe there might be a coding bug
i did check on the rule and for sure you can fire
at whichever plane you choose...since it is not the player who decides in this implementation of the game...i think the computer, when faced with the decision to fire at the slower target or the tailed target...petulantly chose not to fire at either

An aircraft may not fire through a hex containing another aircraft, although the player may fire at the target of his choice in a hex containing several aircraft, both friendly and enemy |
