I propose BlueDragon to fill out the field!
Since there are only 8 teams (I was expecting many more), how about a round-robin first round where every team plays every other team with both sides (English and French)? The top 4 (or maybe 2) would move on to the final rounds. We could use total points scored in the first round, number of individual game victories, or "match" victories (where a match is as originally defined in this thread -- the total points from two teams playing each other in two games).
I'd be open to letting the teams vote on the scenario to use, also. Although the options for 2-player teams are limited, and the teams that have signed up did so thinking it was E v F. Sound off if that would be an issue for you.
Any thoughts? Blast away -- I'm bullet-proof on criticism. Maybe I missed something. I defer to BlueDragon because it was his idea to hold the tournament. He holds a veto as far as I'm concerned. I'm just throwing out ideas.
Either way, I'd keep it open for a week or two just to make sure we have all the teams we're going to get.

The only other "worthwhile" 2 vs 2 scenario is the Arbuthnot and Des Touches. Unless BlueDragon can use his admin power to hack the Gibraltar - Down Wind to a 2 vs 2 scenario. If he can, this is how I propose we split the ships:
French player 1 : Formidable, Bucentaure, Indomptable. French player 2 : Orient and 3 frigates.
English player 1 : Tonnant, Gibraltar, Malta, Amphion. English player 2 : Britannia, Active, Guerriere, Java. (We can always give Amphion to English Player 2 as well).
I doubt this will unbalance anything since it is the same scenario. To promote faster place, we should set a maximum turn limit, 80 turns maybe. If the game is not finished by then, we will just use the score at the end of the turn to determine the winning side. No more long range sniping between 2 crippled ships waiting for a dice roll of 6.
BTW. Based on the interest we have so far, don't even try to increase the team size to 3 players at this moment. Whether we do double elimination or round robin, faster game play is needed to keep everybody interested. People lost interest in the old Trident Cup because most games are done quickly and there is "nothing" for the teams to do while waiting for couple of marathon games. We can try that again once we finish this tournament.
