Message text Another question is: do you think is worth the while having small scenarios with 2/3 ships per side ?
Nick.
I am relatively new here, but I like the smaller and medium sized scenarios better than the large fleet battles when using the basic WSIM rules (as opposed to the advanced rules or Close Action rules). Scenarios with big fleets of SOL's, especially with high quality crews, tend to devolve into partially dismasted hulks drifting around downwind firing as best they can.
So far the Battle of Lake Erie game has proved to be the most entertaining one for me. The smaller ship sizes and rock/paper/scissors nature of having one ship with long guns and the others with ones with carronades makes for a good game. The game seems to often come down to 1 on 1 and can involve a bit of a sea chase at the end.
One thing I don't like about basic WSIM are the large rake bonuses that are still in effect at long range. One false move at range 10 vs. a large SOL and you're down a mast. Then that means the end of moving up wind at all (forever without repair rules in effect).
I would be an advocate of a frigate scenario that is bigger than 1 on 1. Maybe something along the lines of the historical Battle of Lissa.
Is there a process for submitting a scenario request or recommendation?
Would it ever be possible to add other Age of Sail nations such a Russia, Sweden, Holland just to spice it up?
Regards,
