You got a point. In fact I saw scenarios like that in tabletop WW1 games (Aces High, IIRC), but the "lone ace" is loaded with skills, while his foes are usually rookies or just average.
In such a way, these scenarios could, IMHO, become very interesting.
Just my Nth rant to pledge for the introduction of skills and careers...
Yes, Yes, Yes, We must have a squadron framework for skills and careers!!! Instead of joining a league, you join a campaign. Scenarios are plotted out and pilots are put into them based on success, failure, survival. At the end of the campaign you would be able to look back on your success. In between battles you could occasionally upgrade your pilot. gugliandalf for president!
