There is another way to look at this. A wingman jumping in to help a comrade (and provide an extra set of guns) at the right moment can swing the fray in your favour. Sure, he may "steal" your kill. But he may have help prevent your "death"

If you can achieve a 2-1 advantage on the battlefield somewhere - it is usually a good thing.
