Ok, got a question on a game

My Spad fired into Cobra98, and with Iudex's help, we shot down Cobra98. However the results say we both shot him down with out observers. I was flying a Spad XIII, Iudex has a SE5a.
Also, Cobra98's observer fired into my front arc, but shot off my tail. I thought damage from the front arc is suppose to go to engine???

Help!
