Although I could be considered as having "some" experience in Youplay, I will usually see in the few 1st turns if my opponent is eager to come and fight on my side (the usual beginner comes at speed 3). They may then learn by mistake
I will however very often try to fight until my last drop of fuel and get caught gliding in the middle of the map... and then I don't care which side of the map I'm getting out, if I can...
It's a long time since I do not care about my stats anymore: that's why I'm no longer so disappointed when I get the PK red chit or the kaboomed plane
Just play for the fun, and exit the game if it gets boring, with a nice word to your opponent explaining why you leave, at least
