This has probably been brought up before, but the forum seems a little slow, so I'll ask it again.
In all my years of playing blue max, I played under the assumption that the board was the 'encounter zone' or, where the two sides 'spotted' one another. Maybe this is crazy, but the group I played with was deep into character development, so we played like live pilots, i.e., save your fellow squadron mate, save yourself, and whenever possible, KILL THE ENEMY.
What do you think of an Allied craft turning circles to draw the German over? How many think this is ethical? Allied usually had to cross the lines to attack the Germans.
So, if the Allied side shows no gumption to put up a fight, it seems they are playing by a different code of game conduct than I'm used to. Would it then be ethical for me to hang around and turn circles until the game ends without a shot being fired?
The other option is to stick by my code, finish the game, win/lose, live/die, then never join a game with those players again. This is probably how I'll do it as W/Ls or K/Ds don't matter a whole lot to me anyway. Need proof, look at my stats. So, what would y'all do?

While I think it's kind of cheesy to just turn circles to get the Germans to come over to the Allied side of the map, I don't have a problem, in general, with players wanting to move the fight closer to their edge. It is definitely a plus to be nearer to one's own side when it comes time to cut and run or in the event of a dead motor.
Although you could retaliate in kind when an opponent just circles, it would make for a pretty dull game. I'd rather fly over, fight as long as I could, and break off with a comfortable amount of fuel remaining to return to my map edge. If that means we only mix it up for a few turns because I have a Dr.1 and it costs me 2 fuel to advance 1 space (unless I crab my way around with alternating 10R and 10L moves, which is silly anyway...

) then so be it. I'm not going to boycott someone that just circles, but I'm not going to fight until my fuel is completely gone so they can get an easy kill either.
I'm not a big fan of the fuel rules. The main purpose of the fuel rules is to restrict the length of the game, but I feel that there are better ways, such a turn limit, to do this. I know some say that it would destroy the balance of the game if the fuel rules were discarded but, having done this for years in face-to-face play, I can say that it won't. In fact it makes D.VIIs the fearsome machines they were, not your Great-Grandma's model T putting around at speed 1 because of a tiny fuel allowance. People don't fly around at top speed all of the time, because there are good reasons not to. I certainly don't mean to criticize the webmasters for the fuel rules. They are just being faithful to the original boardgame. And I don't mean to be too critcal of the original game designers either. I love to play Blue Max and I love that I can play it here on YouPlay! But if there was just one thing I could change about the game, the fuel rules would be it.
Oh well, enough rambling for now. I've got moves to make!
