No fuel doesn't mean no fuel fumes. Its that vapor that makes things go boom.
Ammunition has a nasty habit of making a loud noise if it isn't happy too. Let's face it, when you smack a bullet on the bottom it gets very unhappy, makes a loud noise and then runs away at speed.
