| Message text If you have your Men-o-War lined up and are pounding away at each other, you definitely are not playing this scenario. This is a Great Lakes Sloop and Brig battle where a single mistake is results in flotsam.
Overview: 2 vs 3 scenario. US - 2 x heavy (relatively speaking) Brigs with carronades. Brit - 2 x light Sloops with Carronades plus 1 x light Sloop with Cannons.
DCR66 and I played this scenario 6 times, 4 x with Basic rules, 2 x with simplified rules. Overall I would say the scenario is balanced on paper. The better tactician should win and manouver is essintial.
Tactics US: They are Carronades only ships, therefore they must close to 2 hexes to even hit. But at Carronade range you have a damage bonus (+1 row verus Brits smaller ships) and if you can rake you have another (+1 versus rake from smaller Brit ships). So in simple terms you must close with enemy and make him yours.
British Tactics: You have the only Cannon ship, plus you have 3 versus 2. In simple terms you keep the US out of two range and nickel and dimw him to dealth. If he rushes you any sort of rake hurts. Also the 3 ships allow for a greater oppertunity for raking.
Summary of tactics: Scenario is a nice one for finding the balance between fire and move.
Comment on Basic rules: With so few ships the bugs in the boarding should not show up (maybe the scoring) as they deal with boarding and then reboarding. Basic is a good option as the drifting (every turn) and boarding add another complication into an already tricky scenario.
Nice job |
