A few points to remember.
Without politics, we would have no wars.
Straddling the fence is a MOST uncomfortable position and very rarely dignified.
Blind faith in your leaders will surely get you killed.
Those points aside.
There is a GREAT game of US Politics called Campaing Trails, we dusted it off in honour of the US Presidential Campaign. Highly reccommended if you can lay your hands on a copy.
If democratic elections are not your style, then you might want to have a go at Junta, a wonderful little game Banana Republic Representation. No counting of votes, except for appearances, and UN scutineers sake. Real political power comes from the barrel of a gun.
Played Junta for years (a superior game by all means!). Had to quit playing as my group of gamers died off. The only "Political"/ Combat game I'd rate above it would be Diplomacy. It successfully reproduces an environment with No Rules better than any other I've played.
