Message text There are certainly more detailed WWI games out there than Blue Max; Red Baron and Wings come to mind. Both of these incorporate banking and turn radii, if my memory serves. Please remember the intent of Blue Max was to create a WWI flying game that was easy to learn and could be played in 1 to 2 hours. Yes, the simplicity of Blue Max can be frustrating, but please do not try to turn it into something it's not. Our local gaming group went overboard, adding altitude, complicated fire rules, additional maneuvers, etc., back in the late 80s. A game was then taking 2 to 3 hours. We recently revamped everything with the goal to balance detail and gameplay. Removing some of the complications but retaining the core additions (altitude, climb/dive rates, gliding, parachutes, critical hits, etc.)has returned us to the 1 to 2 hour game. We did look at Canvas Eagles, when it came out, but the altitude rules were too simplistic and the division of early/late charts didn't make much sense to us.
Please DO NOT change maneuver requirements in this game. |
