Tx - relax man - you are going to have a heart attack. As to your comments, what support do you have to bolster your opinion that Hester is not Hister? If they are not, then my, what a coincidence that a user chose that name and about the time of the original debate. You say its highly unlikely but I would think most would bet they are one and the same. I'll take those bets and when Nick or imdog checks the IP addresses, they can tell us how much is owed to me.
Seriously, compare the two: Hester's m.o. : -create a user name that means pretty much nothing to nobody; -add profile information that shows you to be pretending to be Hitler; -add links to Hitler biographical data at a museum website; -sign up for a bunch of games and get playing in the community; -get users to believe that you are a neo-Nazi and are trying to promote it on the site just by being here; -use nothing but broken German to communicate, both politely in game, as well as rudely in the Forum and other games in response to attacks; -get your ass banned by being a jerk and by not communicating with the Webmaster.
Hister's m.o. : -create a user name that will get sensationalized (due to association with Hester); -use the Austrian flag in your profile to further that association; -add links to anti-Nazi propaganda film; -post a link in the Forum to a man-on-the-street type clip that highlights the stupidity of the Nazis (as well as the folks on the street); -sign up for a bunch of games and get noticed; -get involved in heated Forum threads to get noticed; -create a stir by doing what many others are doing and just being who you are.
Not a lot of connections there to make me believe that the two are the same person. The one thing that they do have in common (other than the similar names which was intentional) is that they apparently both play the game quite well.
If you compare the m.o. of George_Rockwell and Jeffrey_Dahmer, they are more similar to Hister than Hester was. Hester agenda was unclear (it may have been to get his Nazi self out there or just been a poser roleplaying, we will never know) but GR and JD have a pretty clear agenda - trying to force users to accept more freedom of expression than exists (or should exist) on YPI. I'd say the steps that Hister took make it clear his agenda is more in line with GR and JD than Hester.
My bet is that Hister is just the latest username from the GR user. If Nick could block him out, that would be great, but it is too easy to get around an IP address ban.

As for the original post, I can understand how that guy feels. I myself, would prefer not to see names that are created just to start flame wars - which is what has happened here. Had they been banned the first day for a poor choice of a username, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. I understand how Gugli feels, but his original post violated the Forum rules that Nick had established, used inappropriate and unnecessary language, included false accusations, and only caused to start a flamewar. If he had a problem with a user, why not follow the established procedure and email Nick and/or imdog about it? Had he done that, we wouldn't be having this conversation would we?
And banning users for a poor choice of user name is a slippery slope to be avoided I think. Many would consider DirtyFokker to be a poor choice, others consider it witty. Banning someone from the site from day one because of a name they chose to use rather than an actual offensive action would just be continuing to drag the site down. I used to tell people how great a site this is, but I can't honestly say that anymore because of the atmosphere that has developed (or more accurately, been revealed). |
