Finally watched "Flyboys" last night. Good movie but not as good as "Blue Max". There is supposed to be another new WWI movie out soon. Anybody know the name or release date?
I wouldn't want my name in the credits. The film did have a beginning, and an end. What was in the middle, I can't say was too special for me.
My, it even had a scene where our hero finds a spot of turf to put his plane down, in no man's land, no less. He then manages to hop over countless German machine gun fire to help dislodge his comrade hand, trapped beneath his crashed plane. I mean, I'm sure this happened quite often all over the western front.
Additionally, the vertical climb rate of the X-Wing and Tie fighters, errrr, I mean Dr1s and Neuports, were also quite impressive. The Germans also had no other planes but Red DR1s, well except the number one bad guy, who had a black and white DR1.
Its a movie and you can take technical breakdowns with a grain of salt, but the makers of that film did not seem even slightly interested in capturing a semblance to accuracy. I think this is the films greatest breakdown.
I personally will always love the Blue Max, supported by Jerry Goldsmith's wonderful score. Aces High, and Hell's Angel, are also nothworthy films. The latter being noteworth because of the pure number of era aircraft, flown in the film, minus the CGI. |
