i did a little research...ok...close to an hour
and while i found a very large number of sources that attribute the quote to him...none of them are what i would consider to be unimpeachable
the quote was supposedly uttered during a speech to his troops in North Africa, sometime in 1942 and i have been trying to find the actual context online...so far the search has not turned it up and i am not prepared to go to the expense of requesting a copy of the speech from the US arhives
personally i am satisfied that there is reasonable evidence that he did in fact say it and very little to support an assertion that he didnt
a little extra research sometimes pays off... i am not so sure of the credibility of the source but the site's authour is credited with writing several books including The Unknown Patton, the Third Army and Patton's One Minute Messages here is the link to follow...be aware the language is adult
