Dear Templars,
the solution of deleting games older that 365 days allow us to handle the site and all the backoffice tasks (maintenance, index optimization, backup, etc. etc.) with a relative small database that fits on the hard disks of our server and it is relatively easy to move to another PC one in a while in case of disaster.
Currently the size of the database is 2.7GB, but we do not store all the data we wish, so it will grow a bit (considering the rate of games played constant).
I know that deleting old games is a pity, but we simply cannot handle it.
Have fun, Nick. Perhaps you could come up with a summary of the games which could be saved instead of all the information. At the least, track the number of players who have been deleted. Templars is quite correct on that count. |
