I think you may be missing PG's point. While sometimes the pilot may miss the fact of his observers' death, more often the enemy fails to notice it. In the old board game, it was very obvious what had happened with the chit marker system they used and everyone at the board could see the obvious. PG, myself, and I venture to guess, many others often miss this important fact.
The place PG would like to have it noted in red, I'm sure, is in the firing results portion of the screen where everyone can see it.
