hi all
not having played the original board game or read the rules, so not sure if there is or was a limit of ammo.
This posting from Just4Fun was the only one i could find,(must admit i didnt look that hard)with any regard to amounts of ammo.
so, to get to the point, now we have long and short bursts, will there be a limit of ammo added to the game. as it does seem a little strange that our wonderful planes never run out of bullets.

The original game gave gunners four magazines of five "boxes" each. A short burts used one box, a medium two, and a long three. One turn was required to reload an empty gun. This all applied to all fighter aircraft equipped with magazine fed guns (ex. the S.E.5a).

According to the authors, a game represented only one to two minutes of real time combat, so they decided that tracking ammunition expenditure for the forward belt-fed guns wasn't required.

Wow, This is cool, responding to a 1000 day old message!
Anyhow, in the board game, the only planes that had to reload were ones equipped with "Lewis Guns". Those were the Bristol's observer and one of the guns (forward) on the SE5a. The SE had one gun mounted on the fuselage and the Lewis gun on top of the wing. Both, I found rather frustrating to manage. Seemed like your best shots came up when you had to reload!
Another difference I haven't seen anyone talk about from the original game was that the Bristol had TWO guns in back. Personally, I feel the Gamemasters made an equitable accomodation with the way it is right now. Doing away with the "Lewis Gun Factor" makes the SE5a a little stronger and makes the Bristol a little weaker. Coming up behind a Bristol when he had two guns back there was quite a bit more of an adventure! A really good Bristol pilot (and I know there's at least one of you out there because I used to play against you then) could really use that second observer gun to his advantage.
Just some thoughts,
Bombadil
