| | Message text This is for study only. I doubt what I have found will change the outcome of any current game. I find it an interesting intellectual/programming/logic excersize only. I thought I might share it with others who have an 'Engineer's Mind'.
Game 175094. I'm flying the Bristol. On turn 5 my rear gunner fired at Moonglum01's Tripe at a range two. No damage. Turn 6, my rear gunner has another range 2 shot at Moonglum01's tripe, but instead, he shoots at lhsjfk3t's tripe at a range of 3. Near as I can figure out here are the firing tables:
Moonglum01 lhsjfk3t Base 4 Base 3 Burst - Burst - Stab +1 Stab +1 Speed -2 Speed -3 Single -2 Single -3 Def -2 Def -3 Fired +1 Fired -
Total 0 Total -5
Now then, the real interesting part is that a human would have selected to fire at Moonglum01. (Note - I guess one could argue in a live game no shot would have been taken to save ammo, but I myself would have still declared firing a short burst at Moonglum01 gambling on consecutive fire helping me next turn.) Since Moonglum01 was shot down by one of my wingmen, it's actually to my advantage NEXT turn to have fired at lhsjfk3t this turn as I will pick up the consecutive fire modifier if I get a shot. But it seems to me the turn would only play out this way if I declared firing and target AFTER Mitch512u shot down Moonglum01.
I think if this was a sequencing error the problem would be more pandemic in the games.
I assume this is a very subtle bug. My guess is it has something to do with the newly implemented 'no damage, no kill' rule that recently went into effect. Mind you, I'm all for this rule and not complaining one bit that Mitch512u got the kill. Mice going Mitch. I do see it as a bug because if Moonglum01 had survived, I would have had an opportunity to fire next turn. Although, following the argument above, if Moonglum01 had survived, I would have shot at him, thereby giving me the consecutive fire next turn.....blah, blah, blah.
Have fun.
